Concerned Citizens for a Better Brooklyn: 2004 Year in Review Below are some highlights of our accomplishments in 2004. A formal annual report will be available in early 2005. Community Projects Brooklyn Summer Nights For the second year in a row, CCBB hosted several successful summer events in Garrett Park. These events, the Fourth of July Family Fun Festival and Brooklyn Nights Out at the Movies, featured family-friendly entertainment and food, games, and music in the park. CCBB held three Nights Out at the Movies this year (up from the two that were held in 2003), which were all well attended. Be sure to tell family and friends about these activities in 2005! Community Clean-Ups Spring & Fall Clean-Ups These two community-wide clean ups tackled Patapsco Avenue, Farring-Baybrook Park, Curtis Avenue, Pennington Avenue, and Hanover Street. Mayor Martin O’Malley came to Brooklyn during the spring clean up and over 90 participants were involved in the fall cleanup! Our fall clean up also featured bulldozers, trucks, and other heavy equipment that greatly helped with the process. Block Clean-Ups At least once per month, CCBB members completed a block clean-up with the help of a City dumpster and tools, bags, and gloves provided by CCBB. Community Service CCBB forwarded information on needed clean-up areas to the courthouse community service coordinator. Community service is completed on Thursday mornings, with priority given to CCBB requests. Citizens on Patrol (COP) In cooperation with the Baltimore City Police Department Southern District and several community organizations, the Citizens on Patrol has been active in coordinating citizen efforts to fight crime. For information, contact CCBB member Lee Sparling at 410.355.0216.
